Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 September 2026
Kobo is a record of the money you put into it. We keep what you type so we can show it back to you, and we do not sell it, rent it or use it to advertise to you. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Kobo is built and operated by Aregheviogaga Akporaro, based in Nigeria, who is the data controller for everything described here. For anything in this policy, write to aareghe@gmail.com and a person will answer.
This policy covers the Kobo iPhone app and this website, koboapp.com.ng.
2. What we collect, and why
Your account
To create an account we need an email address. You can sign up with an email address and password, with Google, or with Sign in with Apple. If you use Google or Apple, we receive the account identifier and the email address that service releases to us, and nothing else. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your address, we only ever see Apple's private relay address.
Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored by us in a form anyone can read.
Your business profile
Whatever you choose to put in Settings so your receipts look like yours: business name, tagline, logo, phone number, contact email, website, your currency, and your receipt number prefix. All of it is optional except the currency, and all of it exists to be printed on documents you send to your own customers.
What you log
Your entries: the amount, whether it was money in or money out, the title, the date, the note if you wrote one, and, on a money-in entry you turned into a receipt, the line items (description, quantity, unit price) and the receipt number.
This is the whole point of the product. We store it so it is there tomorrow and on your next phone, and we use it for nothing else.
Email we send you
When you create an account we send one welcome email, and we add your address to Kobo's email list so we can send occasional news about the product.
This website no longer collects email addresses. It did before launch, to tell people the day Kobo reached the App Store, and those addresses are still on the list described above until the person unsubscribes.
The welcome email is part of signing up and has no unsubscribe link. Every news or announcement email does, and unsubscribing takes you off the list without touching your account.
How the app is used
In the version of the app published on the App Store, we record product analytics: which screens are opened, whether an entry was money in or money out, whether it had a note, whether a receipt had line items and how many, which reminders are switched on, and which currency an account uses. Every event is tied to your account identifier so we can tell a returning user from a new one.
Amounts, titles and notes are never sent to analytics. The events carry counts, yes-or-no flags and currency codes, never the contents of an entry. Analytics is switched off entirely in development and test builds.
What we do not collect
- No bank account details. Kobo issues receipts, which are proof of money already received, so it has no reason to ask and does not ask.
- No card numbers. Kobo Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase, so Apple takes the payment and never shares your card details with us. All we learn is whether your subscription is active and when the current period ends.
- No contacts, no photo library beyond the single image you pick as your logo, no location, and no tracking of you across other apps or websites.
3. Who processes it
We keep the list short on purpose. Each of these is a company that handles some of your data on our instruction, and nothing else.
| Who | What they hold | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Your account, profile, entries and logo | Sign-in and the database the app reads from |
| Vercel | Requests to our API and to this website | Hosting |
| PostHog | The usage events in section 2, on EU servers | Understanding what people actually use |
| Resend | Your email address | The welcome email and account email |
| Loops | Addresses given on this website before launch | The launch announcement list, now closed to new signups |
| Apple and Google | Only what sign-in requires | Sign in with Apple and Google sign-in |
| Apple | Your payment details, which we never see | Taking payment for Kobo Pro, and telling us only whether it is active |
These providers store data outside Nigeria, including in the European Union and the United States. We use them under their standard data processing terms.
When you leave Kobo
"Give feedback" in Settings opens UserJot, where Kobo's public roadmap and feature requests live. This is different from everything in the table above: we send UserJot nothing about you, not your email address and not your account. It is simply a link out. If you decide to post there you sign up with UserJot yourself, and what you write is public and covered by their privacy policy rather than this one.
The same goes for any other link that takes you off Kobo, including the App Store.
4. One thing worth saying plainly about your logo
Your logo is stored so that it can be fetched by its web address without signing in. That is what lets it render on a receipt. The address is long and not published anywhere, but anyone who has it can open it. Nothing else in your account works this way: your entries and your profile can only be read by your own signed-in session.
So treat the logo like something you are happy to send to a customer, because that is exactly what it is for.
5. Notifications
Kobo's reminders are generated on your phone and scheduled with iOS. The figures in them are worked out on the device. No reminder is sent from a server, so no notification you receive from Kobo has passed through us.
Kobo asks for notification permission once, after you log your first entry, and you can turn each reminder off in Settings.
6. How long we keep it
Your entries and profile stay until you delete them or delete your account. There is no expiry, because a record of last year's money is the thing you most want next year.
Deleting your account deletes everything. Settings has a delete option. It removes your sign-in, your profile, your logo, every entry and every receipt, and it cannot be undone. We do not keep a shadow copy. Backups roll off on our providers' own schedules, within 30 days.
Deleting your account also removes you from our email list. If you only want off the email list and want to keep the account, use the unsubscribe link in any news email instead.
7. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Deleting your account in the app does the last of those immediately, which is usually faster than writing to us. For anything else, email aareghe@gmail.com and we will reply within 30 days.
If you are in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Act gives you these rights. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR and the GDPR do, and you may also complain to your national data protection authority.
8. Children
Kobo is a business tool and is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
9. Changes
If we change what we collect, we will change this page and move the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
